Dr. Alvin Baumwart MS

Dr. Alvin Baumwart completed his pre-veterinary studies at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 1972 and then completed a Masters in Nutrition in 1973. He then received his veterinary degree from Oklahoma State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 1977. Dr. Baumwart then moved to Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and managed at a small animal emergency clinic. After 4 years of active duty, Dr. Baumwart moved back to western Oklahoma and established Highland Veterinary Clinic in 1981. Dr. Baumwart has been a mixed animal practitioner for over 50 years. Dr. Baumwart interest includes being a general clinician & surgeon, small animal dentistry, preventative medicine, and allergies.

Dr. Baumwart is married to Donna Baumwart and has three children that became veterinarians. Dr. Baumwart was born and raised in Clinton, OK. He grew up delivering the Clinton newspaper on bicycle, lifeguarding at the swimming pool, and played football for the Clinton Red Tornadoes. Dr. Baumwart enjoys spending time with his family, riding his bicycle, active elder in the church, and teaching your adults who shares his passion in veterinary medicine.

Dr. Chad Baumwart DACVS

Dr. Chad received his veterinary degree from Oklahoma State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 2004. After veterinary school, Dr. Chad worked at the University of Guelph in Canada and then Littleton Large Animal Clinic in Littleton, Colorado. Dr. Chad performed a 3 year surgery residency at the University of Tennessee, and then passed his boards to become a board certified equine surgeon in 2011. Dr. Chad has worked as an equine surgeon in Elgin, TX, Edmond, OK, Tallahassee, FL, and now he is currently at the Highland Equine Hospital in Arapaho,OK. Dr. Chad’s special interest includes sports medicine, arthroscopic surgery, upper airway surgery, dentistry, and laparoscopic surgery.

Dr. Chad is happily married to April Baumwart and has a young boy named Eldon that was born in April of 2024. Dr. Chad was born and raised in Arapaho, OK. He grew up riding horses on the farm, played football and soccer for the Clinton Red Tornadoes. Dr. Chad enjoys spending time with his family, watching college football (Go Pokes!!), and riding his horse Peppy. April enjoys riding dressage and has a Percheron named Platinum that is 18.2 hands tall.

Dr. Chad comes from a family of veterinarians. He works with his father Alvin and they are co-owners of Highland Veterinary Clinic. He also gets to work with his older sister Angie Dubois, and his brother Ryan, is a veterinary cardiologist at the Washington State University.

Dr. Jon Shepherd

Dr. Jon Shepherd completed his pre-veterinary studies in Norman, OK in 1978. He then received his veterinary degree from Oklahoma State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 1983. Dr. Shepherd then moved to Arapaho, OK and started working as an associate at Highland Veterinary Clinic. Dr. Shepherd began working as a mixed animal practitioner and gradually become the staple large animal practitioner at HVC. Dr. Shepherd’s interest includes production medicine, preventative medicine, surgery, and bovine reproduction

Dr. Shepherd is married to Janelle Shepherd and has two children with one becoming a veterinarian and the other an accountant. Dr. Shepherd was born and raised in Normal, OK, and grew up working at a dairy. He also worked at the OSU dairy while in veterinary school. Dr. Shepherd enjoys spending time with his family, fishing, watching movies, and saying jokes.

Dr. Brittany Hellem

Dr. Brittany Hellem is a 2022 graduate from the Colorado State University, College of Veterinary Medicine. She and her family are from Colorado Springs, Colorado. Dr. Hellem participated in the Alaska/Colorado combined 2+2 veterinary medicine program where she completed her first 2 years of veterinary school at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks, then completed the next 2 years of her veterinary school at Colorado State University. Dr. Hellem earned her undergraduate degree in Equine Science from Colorado State University. Before starting veterinary school, Dr. Hellem worked at the Peterson Smith Advanced Fertility Center in Summerfield, Florida gaining a lot of experience with equine reproduction. She also spent a lot of time in several veterinary clinics in the Colorado area that included a small animal emergency clinic, equine ambulatory practice, and a large animal clinic.

Dr. Hellem’s veterinary interests include general equine practice, equine reproduction, equine dentistry, and equine emergency and critical care. She also enjoys working with dogs and cats in general practice.

In her free time Dr. Hellem enjoys spending time with her fur balls at home which include a retired Alaskan Husky sled dog “Lily”, and a barn cat turned indoor cat named “Spice”. She also enjoys hiking with her dog, baking, and swimming. FYI Dr. Hellem makes the best chocolate chip cookies.

Dr. Angie Dubois

Dr. Angie DuBois received her veterinary degree from Oklahoma State University’s college of Veterinary Medicine in 1999. After veterinary school, Dr. DuBois worked at Tulsa Animal Emergency Center for a year as a small animal emergency and critical care veterinarian. She then moved to Knoxville, TN where she worked at an After Hours Pet Emergency Hospital for 3 years. Next, she moved to Greeley, CO where she continued to practice small animal emergency at Northside Pet Emergency Clinic and Boulder Emergency Pet Clinic for 3 years. In 2006, she moved back to Oklahoma and she continued practicing small animal emergency medicine for 9 years at Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care Hospital in OKC, OK.
In 2014, Dr. DuBois and her family moved in Southeast Asia and served as missionaries in Indonesia. They served by teaching and training about livestock husbandry, community development projects, teaching English as a second language, and roasting coffee. Dr. DuBois moved back to Oklahoma with her family in August of 2024 to start working at the Highland Veterinary Clinic as a small animal veterinarian.
Dr. DuBois is happily married to her husband Dr. Bill DuBois who is a veterinarian that specialized in large animal medicine. Their oldest child Iris is starting college at Carl Albert State Junior College in Poteau and the youngest child Vince is going to school at Corn Bible Academy in Clinton, OK. She enjoys everything OSU (Go Pokes!!), traveling, hiking, swimming, and hanging out with her family.
